Camphill Village

Have you ever heard of Camphill Village. It's a group of communities that supports those with mental disability through holistic healing. It's not just like a "home" where people are shoved into dusty corners and sent through repetitious days of staring at white walls through sedated eyes. Camphill Village locations make sure that those who stay there live healthy, and active lives. Those who are capable work on farms, in cafes, and in shops selling homemade wares to help support the community. I think this place is great; It creates a home for those who are often left feeling unwanted and degraded by society. A great place in my perspective to volunteer your time.

Moods in the Box - Wasting Time

I get in these moods sometimes...I guess when I think about things and try to get to the "Brahman" of what I care about I get pessimistic and absolutist. Oh well this is what I feel like at 12:20AM. This last year, I've been feeling so closed in. I feel as though I don't have any free time at all anymore. I want to do so much, and there is so much that I have to do at once. I work about 30 hrs/week, I go to school full time, and although I actually enjoy my workplace, I am ready for school to be OuT oF My WAy.

It's mostly just this Food science professor who I feel is wasting my time...This might make you laugh... she is a very proud and stubborn woman...she tried to qualify a video the other day (this woman doesn't teach a damn thing...we are watching videos as if we are in a middle school home economics class) about why oil and water don't mix...her explanation: "It's not actually that one is hydrophobic, it's actually, the water molecules... and the oil molecules ...like to stick to their own kind more than they like each other..." she then nodded and smiled and then pressed play on the video again. My jaw went stunned mullet and it never recovered.

The women is teaching "Food Science", it's supposed to be the class that we take as nutrition majors to better understand the process of chemical alterations of food during production, and she doesn't understand high school chemistry.

I could be doing other things, good things...like sleeping...but no I am forced to listen to this women tell us about how the female speaker in her lame ass home economics video from 1993 looks like Maria Shriver.

Perspective on my shiny new blogroll

With the current all-too-friendly relationship between standard big name corporations and governing bodies, I think it's strange how so many people (at least the majority I have questioned on the topic) go on without concern - (see pessimistic blog title.) It's not that every waking moment I'm crouched shaking in a corner, eyes ablaze, crumpled coffee-cup in hand, or that I am a Buddha reincarnate, but I mean, generally, I at least express a moderate amount of concern about the world around me and my impact as an individual. The progression of ethical standards seems to be at a standstill with-in what I perceive to be the majority of people in the U.S. (ok, fine, a black-strap molasses's crawl) and in the few that hold seats in positions of corporate power and government, it seems to have receded back to the dark ages. I don't understand it, and the only thing I know to do about it is do my best to inform, and support others with a similar mindset.
Food Not Bombs Free Vegetarian Lunch event
If you are looking for like-minded people who are actively making a difference in the lives of those around them, I would suggest you take a quick peek at the "Food Not Bombs" blog and main website and see if it appeals to you. Food Not Bombs is a loose-knit group across the U.S. of localized anti-war chapters that come together in peaceful protest making free vegan and vegetarian meals for the hungry. Can't really go wrong with that can you? You can look on their blog and website for a chapter near you, and for upcoming events.
